About Us

ARCO is an employee initiative within the Commerzbank Group, which advocates for the interests of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) colleagues.

The word "arco" is Spanish for "bow" (from Rainbow -> diversity)

ARCO was founded in 2002 on the initiative of the former member of staff Hartmut Fischer together with Barbara David: Hartmut himself (he was responsible for training in personnel department) was living for years openly gay in the bank when he submitted a proposal (ComIdee) to create an improved working environment for gays and lesbians at Commerzbank. In parallel Barbara David, also from the personnel department was about to establish the Diversity Concept in the bank when she was assigned as a reviewer of the proposal.

Following a positive evaluation of the proposal Barbara and Hartmut together contacted further colleagues …

... and ARCO was born!
